Book recommendation - Wonder by R.J. Palacio

What is your first name? Bhumika
What class are you in? D2
What is the title of the book? Wonder
Who is the author? R.J. Palacio
What is this book about? This book is about a young boy who has a condition in which he was born with facial defects, and although he has gone through many surgeries, his face is still very unlike that of a normal person. He used to be home-schooled by his mum but she cannot continue to home-school him and so he has to start going to normal school.
Has this book influenced you in anyway? This book has influenced me to always think twice before saying anything because words can have a big impact on other people and it has also taught me to be more open-minded towards other people because you can never know what they're really going through. I also think this book really made me appreciate what I have and let me see that not everyone in the world is as privileged as we are.
Who would you recommend this book to? I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone! Although the cover and blurb may look and sound childish, the book is very fit for any age group and I really enjoyed reading it!
Why should they read this book? It was a very relatable book, in the sense that everyone at some point finds it hard to fit in in school and I thought it was very well written.
How did you learn about this book? I was looking through the library one day and picked up a few random books and decided to read this one because I thought it was something different than what I usually read.
Any other comments or interesting facts about the book? The book is not only narrated by the young boy himself, but also by people around him, like his friends and his sister, and this really lets you have a full view of what was going on rather than getting one sided views from the young boy himself. However, be warned, this book is a rollercoaster of emotions and you will find yourself in tears, more than once!

Book recommendation - Catch-22 by Joseph Heller

What is your first name? Harish
What class are you in? D1
What is the title of the book? Catch-22
Who is the author? Joseph Heller
What is this book about? The book describes the life of soldiers in the Second World War fighting in Italy, focusing on the character of Yossarian, who, surrounded by a variety of unorthodox and often uncaring or ignorant people, attempts to escape the army and keep his sanity.
Has this book influenced you in anyway? Most definitely; the paradoxical logic of the titular "catch-22" meaning that no-one can leave the army, much less Yossarian has really changed my views on logic. The book's commentary as a satirical look at war and the effect it has altered how I view wars, and the various soldiers has made me appreciate how each is completely insane and what war can do.
Who would you recommend this book to? Anyone and everyone who can appreciate a satirical and humorous - yet dark - novel. Perhaps more mature people who can appreciate the backwards and slightly twisted manner of the book.
Why should they read this book? Because it's amazing in every sense of the word.
How did you learn about this book? Through word of mouth / looking at what books to read online.
Any other comments or interesting facts about the book? The book's catch-22 logic was so influential that the term has become synonymous with an inescapable or paradoxical situation - an example of how powerful the book is!

What is this book about? The book is about a young girl, Aminata Diallo who is kidnapped at the age of eleven from her village Bayo, in west Africa and is sold into the slave market. She has a horrific journey of several months at sea. She marries a young boy of her age but is then separated by her owner. The book talks about her struggles as a slave and how she later learns to read and write from a fellow slave. Aminata somehow manages to escape from her owner during the American Revolutionary War and goes back to her village. She eventually leaves the village and goes to Birchtown England and works for a black community.
Has this book influenced you in anyway? The book gave me a perspective of the difficulties, hardship and inhumanity black people faced in the 17th century.
Aminata’s determination to move forward and, learning about how she faced life with her head held high, helps me put trivial matters and arguments into perspective.
Who would you recommend this book to? To people who are more into historical nonfiction and above the age of fifteen.
Why should they read this book? Our generation is quite lucky. We have such luxuries in our life and have not been exposed to slavery nor the slave market and the cruel acts that they faced. This book really opens one’s eyes to all the hardship faced by black people and has been well written.
